Instrumentation Cable complying to British Standard
The cables may be designed with or without screens and optionally incorporating wire armour. These cables are suitable for operation at voltages up to and including 300 V r.m.s core to earth and 500 V r.m.s. core-to-core.
There are three categories of instrumentation cables
A) Polyethylene insulated and PVC sheathed
(These cables are not recommended for underground burial)
B) Polyethylene insulated, polyethylene bedded, steel wire armoured and PVC sheathed.
C) PVC insulated, armoured/non armoured and PVC sheathed
Construction
Conductors
Conductors shall be plain annealed copper wire in accordance with BS 6360
Insulation
Polyethylene (PE) Type 03 or Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Type TI1
Pair Identification
Coloured insulation as per Table 11 for PVC insulated cable and Table 12 for the PE insulated cable
Screen
Individual pair screen - When required, each pair shall have a laminated screening tape applied with the metallic side down, in electrical contact with a tinned annealed stranded copper drain wire run longitudinally over the non-hygroscopic binder tape.
Collective screen - When required, a laminated screening tape shall be applied with the metallic side down, in electrical contact with a tinned annealed stranded copper drain wire run longitudinally over the non-hygroscopic binder tape.
Bedding
A layer of either PE or PVC shall be extruded over the binder tape.
Armour
For armoured cable, a single layer of galvanized steel wire armoured shall be spirally applied over the bedding
Outer protection
Extruded PVC

As BS 6360 resistance values only allow for multicore cables,
an additional 2% of the maximum resistance has been allowed for
cables of multipair construction
