Providing Medical Assistance - MMCH Charity Hunt 2010 - UpdateAs mentioned in the last report, LEADER being the Gold Sponsor for the MMCH Charity Hunt 2010 was allocated 7 complimentary participating cars for the event. The teams from LEADER (codenamed LEADER 1 to LEADER 7) turned out in full force (in LEADER's T-Shirts customised for the event) in the morning of 31 July 2010, with some bringing along their family members. The 28 participants from LEADER (8 from HO, 12 from LCIB and 8 from Lite Kabel) had a fun-filled and soaking day, thanks to the sudden down-pour midway through the fun-hunt. The day-long event concluded at about 8pm after the official dinner and presentation of prizes by MMCH. It was a bonus for LEADER to take home 2 prizes… LEADER 2 (Ms. Leong Lai Seen & hubby, Ms. Selene Chuah and Ms. Nya Siew Poh) was adjudged 4 place winner for garnering 104 points while LEADER 1 (Mr. Desmond Wong, Ms. Joanna Lim, Mr. Cheah Teik Hoe and Mr. Albert Wong) took home the 'minor' Best Sponsor Team prize, accumulating 72 points. Overall, the support for the event was good and we are happy to note that MMCH exceeded their target of raising RM80,000 for the Needy Cancer Patients Fund. | July 2010: Penang Electrical Merchant's Association (PEMA) Academic Award 2010 | |
| It is heartening to know that children of the Group's employees have done well academically, in the past and present. At the recent PEMA Academic Award 2010 event, two of LCIB's employees' children received the Excellent Academic Performance awards for achieving outstanding results in the PMR and SPM examinations in 2009. The recipient for the award for PMR is the daughter of Ms. Sharon Tan (Payroll Executive) while the recipient for the award for SPM is the daughter of Mr. Lim Teong Soon (Senior Manager - QC). SYABAS to both the recipients and to their parents, well done for parental guidance. It is hoped that their exemplary performance would be repeated by more children of employees of the Group, for the children of today are the nation's future. | |
| July 2010: SESB Open Day and Vendor Day 2010 | |
As part of our ongoing efforts in fostering close relationship with and in providing support and service to our public sector customers, LCIB and UCMB jointly put up an exhibition booth in the Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd's (SESB) Open Day & Vendor Day held at SESB's Head Office in Kota Kinabalu from 15 to 17 July 2010. In line with our CSR activities our LCIB/UCMB team also presented a table fan to the Senior GM-Procurement of SESB, En. Sait Malibas, for the benefit of the users of the surau at SESB's Head office. The combined team's efforts were rewarded with a Certificate of Appreciation, presented by Sabah's Deputy Chief Minister, YB Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Joseph Pairin Kitingan. At the 4th Business Of The Year Award organised by SMI & SME Worldwide Network held on 20 June 2010, UCMB was bestowed the BUSINESS OF THE YEAR AWARD for Wire & Cable Manufacturer Of The Year 2009. The award was presented by the Guest of Honour, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, YB Dato’ Mukhriz Mahathir. Further to the report in last month’s corporate highlights, we are pleased to provide the update as follows: LEADER is among the elite 163 out of the 962 companies listed on Bursa Malaysia that have been included in the inaugural The Edge Billion Ringgit Club (BRC) 2010. Promoting Tourism LEADER has once again played its role as a corporate citizen in support of our home state. Answering the call of the Penang Tourism Bureau, LEADER is sponsoring the performance of the world renowned performing artiste, the suave Italian heartthrob and singing sensation Patrizio Buanne, at the George Town Ball to be held at E&O Hotel in Penang on 11 July 2010 as part of the inaugural month-long George Town Festival in conjunction with the 2nd anniversary of George Town as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on July 7th.  Providing Medical Assistance LEADER is a Gold Sponsor of the forthcoming Charity Hunt 2010 (round Penang Island) to be held on Saturday 31 July 2010 organised by Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital (MMCH). This noble event is organised by MMCH in aid of Needy Cancer Patients (NCP) Fund. Being a non-profit organisation, MMCH has set up this prominent NCP Fund, among other various funds, to uphold its facilities and subsidies to its patients. NCP Fund was set up with the main aim of providing medical subsidy to deserving and needy patients. Despite the escalating treatment costs, MMCH has always ensured that each patient is given the best possible treatment option regardless of their financial status. | The Edge, Malaysia's leading financial media group will be launching The Edge-BRC to honour the country's biggest and best performing companies and their CEOs. We are delighted to inform that LEADER is one of the elite few that qualify for The Edge-BRC on the basis of achieving annual group turnover of at least RM1.0 billion, among other criteria. A gala dinner will be held by The Edge-BRC on 5 July (deferred from the original planned date in June) to celebrate our success as one of Malaysia's best performing companies. Our MD & CEO, Dato' Sean has been invited to attend the gala dinner, which will be graced by the Prime Minister of Malaysia who will be delivering the keynote address and presenting the awards to award winners. | |
